Development and Validation of Two Intact Lumbar Spine Finite Element Models for In Silico Investigations: Comparison of the Bone Modelling Approaches

Finite element (FE) analyses contribute to a better understanding of the human lumbar spine’s biomechanics and serve as an effective predictive tool. This study aims present development two L1–L5 FE models using literature-based (LBM) patient-specific (PSM) bone material assignment approaches. The geometry spine was developed based on quantitative computed tomography scans. LBM PSM were compared under pure combined loads. Various biomechanical parameters investigated validate models. total range motion in flexion-extension, lateral bending, axial rotation 30.9°, 29°, 13.7°, respectively, while for PSM, it 31.6°, 28.6°, 14.1°. required computational time complete against loads 12.1 16.6 times higher average LBM. demonstrated that both agree with experimental silico results, although cumulative distribution stress characterization strain values showed noteworthy difference between Based these findings, clinically-focused studies must perceive differences internal mechanical demand different modelling
