چکیده
Biofouling is recognized as one of the most problematic fouling types in reverse osmosis (RO) processes and lead to high energy requirements operating costs. Over past decade, many studies on membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems for wastewater applications demonstrated that disrupting cell-cell communications among bacteria, called quorum quenching (QQ), a promising approach inhibit biofouling membranes. Here, we developed QQ-column novel strategy control RO systems. The was prepared by incorporating recombinant bacterial QQ strain into hydrogel beads embedding these inside column. installed upstream module degrade N-acyl homoserine lactone, sensing (QS) signal, from feed laboratory-scale system total recycle mode. reduced concentrations signal molecules ?29% an mitigated biofilm formation (38.6% reduction cell number) membrane, consequently reducing transmembrane pressure 50.1%. These results demonstrate integrating bacteria columns practical method

Quorum Quenching Mediated Approaches for Control of Membrane Biofouling
Membrane biofouling is widely acknowledged as the most frequent adverse event in wastewater treatment systems resulting in significant loss of treatment efficiency and economy. Different strategies including physical cleaning and use of antimicrobial chemicals or antibiotics have been tried for reducing membrane biofouling. Such traditional practices are aimed to eradicate biofilms or kill the ...
متن کاملNitric oxide treatment for the control of reverse osmosis membrane biofouling.
Biofouling remains a key challenge for membrane-based water treatment systems. This study investigated the dispersal potential of the nitric oxide (NO) donor compound, PROLI NONOate, on single- and mixed-species biofilms formed by bacteria isolated from industrial membrane bioreactor and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The potential of PROLI NONOate to control RO membrane biofouling was also ex...

Membrane biofouling remains a severe problem to be addressed in wastewater treatment systems affecting reactor performance and economy. The finding that many wastewater bacteria rely on N-acyl homoserine lactone-mediated quorum sensing to synchronize their activities essential for biofilm formations; the quenching bacterial quorum sensing suggests a promising approach for control of membrane bi...

Periodic Control of a Reverse Osmosis Water Desalination Unit
Enhancement of the performance of a reverse osmosis (RO) unit through periodic control is studied. The periodic control manipulates the feed pressure and flow rate of the RO unit. To ensure the periodic behavior of the inputs, the manipulated variables (MV) are transformed into the form of sinusoidal functions. In this case, the amplitude and period of the sinusoidal functions become the surrog...
