Diagnosis of cervical lesion by colposcopy, VIA, pap smear tests, and their correlation with histopathology in a tertiary level laboratory in Chattogram, Bangladesh

Background: Cervical carcinoma is one of the most common causes mortality among women. This rate can be reduced by early detection cervical neoplasm different screening tests. The main objective this study was to diagnose diseases colposcopy, pap smears for cytological examination as well correlate these findings tests with histopathological diagnosis. Methods: In cross-sectional observational study, total 143 cases were included. History taken and clinical done. Colposcopy VIA test done, smear sample collected reporting made. Cytological correlated histopathology. Results: Mean age 41.2±11.5 years. positive in 98 (68.5%). On show neoplastic proliferation (80 cases, 55.9%). Among them, diagnosed intraepithelial neoplasia-I (CIN-I). Sixty-three (63) (44.1%) non-neoplastic. Most biopsies histopathologically (CIN-I) (20 14.0%). Association colposcopy diagnosis done which significant. Sensitivity malignancy 33.33% specificity 98.57%. Conclusions: provides good cyto-histopathology correlation detecting lesions colposcopy. Although sensitivity low but it increased adequate training avoiding technical errors. Bethesda system strongly recommended adequacy sampling minimize inconsistency. Early regular should advised reduction rates from carcinoma.
