چکیده

Abstract The diameter distribution of trees in a stand provides the basis for determining stand’s ecological and economic value, its structure stability appropriate management practices. Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) is one most common important conifers Turkey, so well-planned schedule critical. Diameter models to accurately describe help improve strategies, but developing reliable requires deep understanding growth, output constraints forests. information derived by primary data on horizontal each class trees: basal area volume per unit area. These predictions are required estimate range products predicted yield from forest stand. Here, construct an accurate, model natural stands Türkmen Mountain region, we used Johnson’s S B represent empirical distributions using ground-based measurements 55 sample plots that included 1219 zones As alternative, nonparametric approach, which does not require any predefined function, artificial intelligence was constructed based support vector machine methodology. An error index calculated evaluate results. Overall, both probability density function with three-parameter recovery approach regression methodology provided estimates these stands.

Leaf area index and canopy strati cation in Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L . ) stands

In order to assess the contribution of each layer to eVective leaf area index (LAI) in stratiŽ ed forest canopies, two Scots pine stands were selected in Haguenau forest, Alsace, France. One stand, 80 years old, had a sparse tree layer and a dense herb layer. The other stand, 50 years old, had a closed tree layer and dense herb and shrub layers. Hemispherical photographs, taken at 10-metre inte...

Transpiration of montane Pinus sylvestris L. and Quercus pubescens Willd. forest stands measured with sap flow sensors in NE Spain

Stand transpiration was measured during the 2003 and 2004 growing seasons using heat dissipation sap flow sensors in a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and a pubescent oak (Quercus pubescens Willd.) forests located in a montane area of the Eastern Pyrenees (NE Spain). The first aim of the study was to assess the differences in quantitative estimates of transpiration (Ec) and the response to eva...

The impact of Sirex noctilio in Pinus resinosa and Pinus sylvestris stands in New York and Ontario

Sirex noctilio Fabricius has a long history as an invasive insect species in pine plantations throughout the Southern Hemisphere and has been recently discovered in North America, where it is uncertain how this insect will behave in pine ecosystems. To assess the impact and attack behavior of S. noctilio, forest surveys and measurements from attacked and unattacked trees were taken in nine Pinu...

Comparison of tree stem diameter variations in beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in Sorø Denmark and in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in Hyytiälä, Finland

Tree stem diameter variations were measured simultaneously in beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in Sorø, Denmark and in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in Hyytiälä, Finland. The variations were detected at two heights on the xylem and the whole stem on both trees. The evapo-transpiration of the forests was measured by eddy-covariance method. The pattern of evapo-transpiration was refl ected on the di...

A new method for evaluating forest thinning: growth dominance in managed Pinus resinosa stands

Growth dominance is a relatively new, simple, quantitative metric of within-stand individual tree growth patterns, and is defined as positive when larger trees in the stand display proportionally greater growth than smaller trees, and negative when smaller trees display proportionally greater growth than larger trees. We examined long-term silvicultural experiments in red pine (Pinus resinosa A...
