Diarrhea Caused by the Displacement of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tube Tip Into the Duodenum: A Rare Case

چکیده
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a widely used procedure for patients with dysphagia and inadequate oral intake. Although PEG offers numerous benefits, complications can occur. Here, we present an unusual case of 68-year-old woman who developed persistent diarrhea following routine tube exchange. Despite treatment attempts, her symptoms persisted, prompting further investigation. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed the unexpected displacement tip into duodenum. Repositioning stomach resolved diarrhea, patient was discharged without recurrence. Diarrhea common gastrointestinal side effect in receiving enteral nutrition through tube, typically attributed to multiple factors. While previous reports indicate no significant difference occurrence between duodenal gastric feeding, findings suggest that presence duodenum may contribute some patients. This highlights potential role diagnosing PEG-fed individuals. Further accumulation cases necessary establish significance placement as procedures. In conclusion, report emphasizes considering tube. use abdominal be valuable identifying such misplacements guiding appropriate interventions. research needed validate these explore clinical implications management PEG-related

متن کاملLaparoscopic-Assisted Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Tube Placement
BACKGROUND Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is the most common way of placing a feeding tube. Sometimes PEG cannot be used to safely place a feeding tube, most commonly secondary to an inability to transilluminate the abdominal wall. Whereas open gastrostomy was previously necessary in such cases, laparoscopic-assisted percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (LAPEG) is a viable option and ...
