Different Drying Techniques Can Affect the Adsorption Properties of Agarose-Based Gels for Crystal Violet Removal
نویسندگان
چکیده
Agarose-based gels were produced either by freeze-drying or supercritical drying for crystal violet (CV) removal from aqueous solutions. The microporosity features of these structures highly affected the final adsorption properties. In particular, agarose cryogels characterized a macroporous and irregular morphology, with low value specific surface area (11 ± 6 m2/g) respect to nanoporous aerogels (154 12 m2/g). To test efficacy CV removal, two different types performed, i.e., batch-mode multi-step mode. Operating in mode, performance was larger both aerogels, since this method allowed more effective contact between adsorbent. using 300 mg cryogels, efficiency 74% achieved; same quantity 96% reached after eight steps adsorption. Desorption realized ascorbic acid and, regeneration, 93% preserved, even three cycles filtration

Quantitative adsorption of crystal violet.
The formula for crystal violet given in Conn's book (1940) implies that quantitative measurement of the dye adsorbed by bacterial cells should be possible by a suitable micro-Kjeldahl procedure. At the present time there is no satisfactory method for estimating the degree of gram positivity although the need for such a procedure is recognized and is discussed by Bartholomew and Mittwer (1952). ...

The molecular properties of the scrapie agent were investigated by subjecting partially purified preparations to electrophoresis on agarose gels. When electrophoresis was performed at room temperature in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (NaDodSO4), most of the recoverable agent was found at the top of the gel, consistent with previous studies indicating aggregation of the agent upon expos...

Impact of saccharides on the drying kinetics of agarose gels measured by in-situ interferometry
Agarose gels are viscoelastic soft solids that display a porous microstructure filled with water at 90% w/w or more. Despite an extensive use in food industry and microbiology, little is known about the drying kinetics of such squishy solids, which suffers from a lack of time-resolved local measurements. Moreover, only scattered empirical observations are available on the role of the gel compos...
