Diffusion of Cosmic Rays in MHD Turbulence with Magnetic Mirrors

چکیده

Abstract As the fundamental physical process with many astrophysical implications, diffusion of cosmic rays (CRs) is determined by their interaction magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. We consider magnetic mirroring effect arising from MHD turbulence on CRs. Due to intrinsic superdiffusion turbulent fields, CRs large pitch angles that undergo mirror reflection, i.e., bouncing CRs, are not trapped between mirrors, but move diffusively along field, leading a new type parallel diffusion, diffusion. This in general slower than nonbouncing small gyroresonant scattering. The critical angle at balance and pitch-angle scattering important for determining coefficients both scalings CR energy. find nonuniversal energy coefficients, depending properties

The transport of cosmic rays in self-excited magnetic turbulence

The process of diffusive shock acceleration relies on the efficacy with which hydromagnetic waves can scatter charged particles in the precursor of a shock. The growth of self-generated waves is driven by both resonant and non-resonant processes. We perform high-resolution magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the non-resonant cosmicray driven instability, in which the unstable waves are excited b...

Fractional diffusion of cosmic rays

We consider the propagation of galactic cosmic rays under assumption that the interstellar medium is a fractal one. An anomalous diffusion equation in terms of fractional derivatives is used to describe of cosmic ray propagation. The anomaly in used model results from large free paths (" Lévy flights ") of particles between galactic inhomogeneities and long time a particle stays in a trap. An a...

Properties of magnetic reconnection in MHD turbulence

Numerical simulations of two-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic (2D MHD) turbulence reveal the presence of a huge number of sites where magnetic reconnection locally occurs. The properties of this ensemble of reconnection events, that are spontaneously generated by turbulence, have been studied. The associated reconnection rates, computed as the electric field at the neutral points, are broadly di...

Detailed analysis of observed antiprotons in cosmic rays

In the present work, the origin of antiprotons observed in cosmic rays (above the atmosphere) is analyzed in details. We have considered the origin of the primaries, (which their interactions with the interstellar medium is one of the most important sources of antiprotons) is a supernova type II then used a diffusion model for their propagation. We have used the latest parameterization for anti...

Spatial Origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays in Diffusion Models: II- Exotic Primary Cosmic Rays

In a companion paper, we investigated the question of the spatial origin of the cosmic rays detected in the Solar neighborhood, in the case of standard sources located in the Galactic disk. There are some reasons to believe that there may also be a large number of sources located in the halo, for example if the Galactic dark matter is made of supersymmetric particles or if Primordial Black Hole...
