Discontinuous yielding transition of amorphous materials with low bulk modulus

چکیده

The yielding transition of amorphous materials is studied with a two-dimensional Hamiltonian model that allows both shear and volume deformations. investigated as function the relative value bulk modulus $B$ respect to $\mu$. When ratio $B/\mu$ small enough, becomes discontinuous, yet reversible. If system driven at constant strain rate in coexistence region, spatially localized band observed while rest remains blocked. crucial role fluctuations origin this behavior clarified mean field version model.

Predictive analytics for crystalline materials: bulk modulus

The bulk modulus is one of the important parameters for designing advanced high-performance and thermoelectric materials. The current work is the first attempt to develop a generalized model for forecasting bulk moduli of various types of crystalline materials, based on ensemble predictive learning using a unique set of attributes. The attributes used are a combination of experimentally measure...

Shear-transformation-zone theory of yielding in athermal amorphous materials.

Yielding transitions in athermal amorphous materials undergoing steady-state shear flow resemble critical phenomena. Historically, they have been described by the Herschel-Bulkley rheological formula, which implies singular behaviors at yield points. In this paper, I examine this class of phenomena using an elementary version of the thermodynamic shear-transformation-zone (STZ) theory, focusing...

Anomalous magnetic viscosity in bulk-amorphous materials

The demagnetization processes and the magnetic viscosity have been studied on a bulk-amorphous Nd 60 Fe 30 Al 10 rod at room temperature. Many unique magnetic properties have been found in this novel hard magnetic material. A clear hysteresis was present on the minor loops, though the total and irreversible susceptibilities exhibited single-phase magnet behavior. A signi"cant magnetic viscosity...

The yielding transition in amorphous solids under oscillatory shear deformation

Amorphous solids are ubiquitous among natural and man-made materials. Often used as structural materials for their attractive mechanical properties, their utility depends critically on their response to applied stresses. Processes underlying such mechanical response, and in particular the yielding behaviour of amorphous solids, are not satisfactorily understood. Although studied extensively, ob...

NANOCRYSTALLIZATION MECHANISMS OF Fe52Cr18Mo7B16C4Nb3 BULK AMORPHOUS STEEL

Crystallization kinetics of Fe52Cr18Mo7B16C4Nb3 alloy was evaluated using X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) tests and TEM observations in this research work. In effect, crystallization and growth mechanisms were investigated using DSC tests in four different heating rates (10, 20, 30, 40 K/min) and kinetic models (i.e. Kissinger- Starink, Ozawa, and Matusita methods). ...
