Discrete nonlinear elastodynamics in a port‐Hamiltonian framework

چکیده

Abstract We provide a fully nonlinear port‐Hamiltonian formulation for discrete elastodynamical systems as well structure‐preserving time discretization. The governing equations are obtained in variational manner and represent index‐1 differential algebraic equations. Performing an index reduction, one obtains the state space model, which features strains independent next to position velocity. Moreover, hyperelastic material behavior is captured terms of stored energy function. model exhibits passivity losslessness has underlying symmetry yielding conservation angular momentum. perform temporal discretization using midpoint gradient, such that beneficial properties inherited by developed stepping scheme sense. numerical results representative example demonstrated validate findings.

Isogeometric Analysis Applied to Nonlinear Elastodynamics

A numerical investigation is carried out in this work in order to evaluate the computational performance of a numerical model based on isogeometric analysis for applications on geometrically nonlinear elastodynamics. In the FEM (finite element method) practice, it is well known that the Newmark’s method is unconditionally stable for linear structural systems, but this characteristic is frequent...

Existence results in nonlinear peridynamics in comparison with local elastodynamics

We give an overview on existence results in nonlinear peridynamics, a nonlocal elasticity theory, and compare these results with those known for classical nonlinear elastodynamics. We conclude that even though peridynamics was developed in the beginning of the current century, it is possible to obtain stronger results under equal or even less restrictive assumptions on the stress. Nonlinear manifold learning for model reduction in finite elastodynamics

Model reduction in computational mechanics is generally addressed with linear dimensionality reduction methods such as Principal Components Analysis (PCA). Hypothesizing that in many applications of interest the essential dynamics evolve on a nonlinear manifold, we explore here reduced order modeling based on nonlinear dimensionality reduction methods. Such methods are gaining popularity in div...

An energy-preserving Discrete Element Method for elastodynamics

We develop a Discrete Element Method (DEM) for elastodynamics using polyhedral elements. We show that for a given choice of forces and torques, we recover the equations of linear elastodynamics in small deformations. Furthermore, the torques and forces derive from a potential energy, and thus the global equation is an Hamiltonian dynamics. The use of an explicit symplectic time integration sche...
