Dispersion control in pressure-driven flow through bowed rectangular microchannels

چکیده
In fully-developed pressure-driven flow, the spreading of a dissolved solute is enhanced in flow direction due to transverse velocity variations phenomenon now commonly referred as Taylor–Aris dispersion. It well understood that characteristics dispersion are sensitive channel’s cross-sectional geometry. Here we demonstrate method for manipulation single rectangular microchannel via controlled deformation its upper wall. Using rapidly prototyped multi-layer microchip, channel wall deformed by pressure source allowing us characterize dependence on deflection and overall aspect ratio. For given ratio, an optimal minimize found, consistent with prior numerical theoretical predictions. Our experimental measurements also compared directly predictions using idealized

Flow of gaseous mixtures through rectangular microchannels driven by pressure, temperature, and concentration gradients
The flow of binary gaseous mixtures through rectangular microchannels due to small pressure, temperature, and molar concentration gradients over the whole range of the Knudsen number is studied. The solution is based on a mesoscale approach, formally described by two coupled kinetic equations, subject to diffuse scattering boundary conditions. The model proposed by McCormack substitutes the com...

The flow of liquid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS, Dow Corning Sylgard 184, 10 : 1 base to cross-linker ratio) in open, rectangular silicon microchannels, with and without a coating (100 nm) of poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene (PTFE), was studied. Photolithographic patterning and etching of silicon wafers was used to create microchannels with a range of widths (∼5-50 μm) and depths (5-20 μm). Experimenta...
متن کاملOn the flow topology inside droplets moving in rectangular microchannels.
The flow topology in moving microdroplets has a significant impact on the behaviour of encapsulated objects and hence on applications of the technology. This study reports on a systematic investigation of the flow field inside droplets moving in a rectangular microchannel, by means of micro-particle image velocimetry (μPIV). Various water/oil (w/o) fluid mixtures were studied in order to elucid...
متن کاملFlow in Slowly Varying Microchannels of Rectangular Cross-section
Copyright ©2009 by ASME ABSTRACT Laminar fully developed flow in streamwise-periodic microchannels of rectangular cross-section has been studied in this work. Based on the lubrication approximation, an analytical approach is proposed for the frictional flow resistance. Using the analytical model developed for straight channels of arbitrary cross-section, compact models are developed for linear ...
