چکیده

We report the results of an extensive experimental campaign dedicated to analysis turbulent dispersion owing circulations in tidal environments, characterized by a inlet and channel with lateral flats. focus on weakly-convergent weakly-dissipative estuaries or embankments, where internal waters communicate open sea through mouth. Tides are reproduced as single multiple harmonics waves. Particle Image Velocimetry is employed measure two-dimensional surface velocity fields. Large-scale macro-vortices, generated vortex shedding during flood phase from barrier, tend occupy entire flats width completely flushed out ebb phase. In all experiments, intense residual current, shape influenced large-scale vortices, observed. The presence vortices current strongly influences Lagrangian auto-correlation functions corresponding absolute time evolution. Looping auto-correlations signature both periodic forcing ultimately, leading super diffusive regimes. An asymptotic Brownian regime always found for investigated range parameters allowing estimate horizontal coefficients which turn decrease friction parameter be enhanced when semi-diurnal constituents prevail. Finally, particle statistics show regimes depending separations, compared typical injection length scale that seems coincide mouth dimension.

Unfolding isochronicity in weakly dissipative coupled oscillators

We consider the dynamics of networks of oscillators that are weakly dissipative perturbations of identical Hamiltonian oscillators with weak coupling. Suppose the Hamilto-nian oscillators have angular frequency !() when their energy is. We address the problem of what happens in a neighbourhood of where d!=dd = 0; we refer to this as a point of isochronicity for the oscillators. If the coupling ...

Dispersion in weakly guiding fibers.

Optical signals transmitted through cladded glass fibers are subject to delay distortion because of (1) dispersion in the material, (2) dispersion caused by the waveguide characteristic, and (3) delay differences between modes. We isolate these effects and evaluate their significance for cases of practical interest. These concern fibers in which the refractive index of the cladding is only slig...

Weakly dissipative systems in Celestial Mechanics

We investigate the dynamics associated to nearly–integrable dissipative systems, with particular reference to some models of Celestial Mechanics which can be described in a weakly dissipative framework. We start by studying some paradigmatic models provided by the dissipative standard maps in 2 and 4 dimensions. The dynamical investigation is performed applying frequency analysis and computing ...

Salt Marsh Tidal Channels

Salt marsh tidal channels are highly sinuous. For this project, field surveys and aerial photographs were used to characterize the planform of tidal channels at China Camp Marsh in the San Francisco Bay, California. To model the planform evolution, we assume that the topographic curvature of the channel centreline is a key element driving meander migration. Extraction of curvature data from a p...

Dynamical approach to weakly dissipative granular collisions.

Granular systems present surprisingly complicated dynamics. In particular, nonlinear interactions and energy dissipation play important roles in these dynamics. Usually (but admittedly not always), constant coefficients of restitution are introduced phenomenologically to account for energy dissipation when grains collide. The collisions are assumed to be instantaneous and to conserve momentum. ...
