Disturbance–recovery dynamics inform seafloor management for recovery

Over most of the world’s estuaries, coasts, and continental shelves, key indicators seafloor biodiversity, anthropogenic stress, ecological sustainability emphasize need to shift habitat management conservation from prevention degradation actions focused on recovery. Here we discuss role disturbance–recovery dynamics in devising prioritizing effective interventions. Understanding enables assessment possible recovery outcomes where these may be achieved. Ecosystem networks, biodiversity landscapes, species‐specific biological traits, location‐specific contexts provide managers with information which likely temporal spatial scales can determined. On basis theory empirical evidence, potential for species drive or maintenance marine soft‐sediment ecosystems.
