Disturbances from Single Event Upsets in the GRACE Follow-On Laser Ranging Interferometer

چکیده

The GRACE – Follow On (GRACE-FO) satellite mission (2018-now) hosts the novel Laser Ranging Interferometer (LRI), a technology demonstrator for proving feasibility of laser interferometry inter-satellite ranging measurements. GRACE-FO extends valuable climate data record changing mass distribution in system Earth, which was started by original (2002-2017). can be deduced from observing changes distance two low-earth orbiters employing electromagnetic waves K-Band conventional (KBR) and near-infrared LRI. This paper identifies possible radiation-induced Single Event Upset (SEU) events LRI phase measurement. We simulate processing within Processor (LRP) use template-based fitting approach to determine parameters SEU subtract data. Over four years data, 31 such were identified characterized.

Measuring Earth: Current status of the GRACE Follow-On Laser Ranging Interferometer

The GRACE mission that was launched in 2002 has impressively proven the feasibility of low-orbit satellite-to-satellite tracking for Earth gravity observations. Especially mass transport related to Earth's hydrological system could be well resolved both spatially and temporally. This allows to study processes such as polar ice sheet decline and ground water depletion in great detail. Owing to G...

Intersatellite laser ranging instrument for the GRACE follow-on mission

The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) has demonstrated that low–low satellite-tosatellite tracking enables monitoring the time variations of the Earth’s gravity field on a global scale, in particular those caused by mass-transport within the hydrosphere. Due to the importance of long-term continued monitoring of the variations of the Earth’s gravitational field and the limited lif...

Mitigating Single Event Upsets

The Soft Error Rate (SER) is expressed as Failure-in-Time (FIT) units, defined as one soft error occurrence every billion hours of operation.Often SEUmitigation is not required because of the low chance of occurrence. However, for highly complex systems, such as with multiple high-density components, error rate may be a significant system design factor. If your system includes multiple FPGAS an...
