Droplet spatial distribution in a spray under evaporating and reacting conditions

In order to study spray combustion, an experimental test rig was developed at ONERA partially characterize the flow conditions inside combustion chamber of a gas turbine. Experimental campaigns using laser-based diagnostics were performed provide database under reacting and non-reacting conditions. The paper first describes Mie scattering image-processing detect droplets in spray, calculate 2D maps droplet number density mean inter-droplet distance. method is subsequently used investigate behavior both according global-averaging phase-averaging methods. findings on spatial distribution are compared simple regular grid Hertz–Chandrasekhar distribution. Results show that, conditions, there affine relationship between inverse square root nearest-neighbor Moreover, observations suggest that fits more closely than distribution, which may bring new insight for modeling.
