DSAG: A Mixed Synchronous-Asynchronous Iterative Method for Straggler-Resilient Learning

چکیده
We consider straggler-resilient learning. In many previous works, e.g., in the coded computing literature, straggling is modeled as random delays that are independent and identically distributed between workers. However, practical scenarios, a given worker may straggle over an extended period of time. propose latency model captures this behavior substantiated by traces collected on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), small local cluster. Building model, we DSAG, mixed synchronous-asynchronous iterative optimization method, based stochastic average gradient (SAG) combines timely stale results. also dynamic load-balancing strategy to further reduce impact evaluate DSAG for principal component analysis, cast finite-sum problem, large genomics dataset, logistic regression cluster composed 100 workers AWS, find up about 50% faster than SAG, more twice fast methods, particular scenario consider.

A Design Method of Mixed Synchronous-Asynchronous Circuit
Most of the digital circuits are categorized into the synchronous circuit which uses a clock signal to alter its internal state such that a digital signal is latched by a flip-flop in the timing specified by a clock signal. Therefore, even if a digital signal suffers from ”hazard” in between two consecutive raising edges of a clock signal, a correct signal is successfully latched if the signal ...
متن کاملThe Flipped Classroom: A Modality for Mixed Asynchronous and Synchronous Learning in a Residency Program
INTRODUCTION A "flipped classroom" educational model exchanges the traditional format of a classroom lecture and homework problem set. We piloted two flipped classroom sessions in our emergency medicine (EM) residency didactic schedule. We aimed to learn about resident and faculty impressions of the sessions, in order to develop them as a regular component of our residency curriculum. METHODS...

متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Mixed Asynchronous Synchronous Systems
The paper is concerned with the timing analysis of a class digital systems we call mixed asynchronous{synchronous systems. In such a system, each computation module is either synchronous (i.e. clocked) or asynchronous (i.e. selftimed). The communication between modules is assumed to be selftimed for all modules. We introduce a graph model called MASS for describing the timing behaviour of such ...
