Dual-Energy Computed Tomography (DECT) Scan for Determination of Renal Stone Composition: A Phantom Study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) scan has been proposed as an effective modality for determining the chemical composition of renal stone subtypes. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare efficacy DECT in identification type versus biochemical analysis gold standard. Materials Methods: The 146 stones, removed from patients by surgery, was determined a medical laboratory. stones were then inserted into kidney anthropomorphic Rando phantom, scans acquired. type, specified scanner software, compared with results Results: showed acceptable accuracy identifying Based on comparison results, values cystine, uric acid, calcium-oxalate 97%, 100%, respectively. Conclusion: present could detect pure types high sensitivity. However, mixed directly identified scan, not reliable.

Dual-energy computed tomography with advanced postimage acquisition data processing: improved determination of urinary stone composition.

INTRODUCTION The characterization of urinary calculi using noninvasive methods has the potential to affect clinical management. CT remains the gold standard for diagnosis of urinary calculi, but has not reliably differentiated varying stone compositions. Dual-energy CT (DECT) has emerged as a technology to improve CT characterization of anatomic structures. This study aims to assess the ability...

Three-Dimensional Dual-Energy Computed Tomography for Enhancing Stone/Stent Contrasting and Stone Visualization in Urolithiasis

The use of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) for evaluating urinary calculi has been appreciated due to the modality's capability of differentiating between uric acid (UA) and non-UA stones, which are color coded based on a postprocessing algorithm. No other imaging modality or laboratory test is able to identify the stone composition without first attaining the stone material. Knowledge o...

non-calcified coronary artery plaque characterization by dual energy computed tomography (dect)

background one of the most important causes of mortality in developed and developing countries is coronary artery disease. coronary artery disease (cad) may develop by deposition of lipid, fibrous or calcified debris on the surface of the coronary artery lumen. fibrous plaque and calcified plaque may cause substantial stenosis of coronary arteries leading to ischemia of heart muscle while lipid...

Tophaceous Gout in an Anorectic Patient Visualized by Dual Energy Computed Tomography (DECT)

BACKGROUND Gout is characterized by deposition of uric acid crystals (monosodium urate) in tissues and fluids. This can cause acute inflammatory arthritis. The 2015 ACR/EULAR criteria for the diagnosis of gout include dual energy computed tomography (DECT)-demonstrated monosodium urate crystals as a new criterion. DECT is a spectral decomposition that permits recognition of different types of t...

Can a dual-energy computed tomography predict unsuitable stone components for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy?

PURPOSE To assess the potential of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) to identify urinary stone components, particularly uric acid and calcium oxalate monohydrate, which are unsuitable for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). MATERIALS AND METHODS This clinical study included 246 patients who underwent removal of urinary stones and an analysis of stone components between November...
