Dynamic Analysis and Experiment of Multiple Variable Sweep Wings on a Tandem-Wing MAV

The current morphing technologies are mostly regarded as auxiliary tools, providing additional control torques to enhance the flight maneuverability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and they cannot exist independently traditional surfaces. In this paper, we propose a tandem-wing micro vehicle (MAV) with multiple variable-sweep wings, which can reduce inertia forces moments weaken dynamic coupling between longitudinal lateral motion while MAV morphs symmetrically for pitch or asymmetrically roll control, thereby flying without aileron elevator. First, load experiments were conducted on verify structural strength variable sweep caused by presented through numerical simulations. Then, effects symmetric asymmetric investigated via response simulations based Kane model MAV, generated also analyzed during morphing. Finally, open-loop conducted. experimental results demonstrated that mode in study could dynamics it was feasible attitude elevator flying.
