چکیده
Abstract Parallel computing plays a vital role when solving large problems in computational mechanics, which might not be tractable by serial computers. Yet, order to utilize parallel hardware effectively, appropriate balancing of the work load among all processes is crucial speed up computations and avoid waste resources. The present contribution addresses question optimal context contact with particular focus on dynamic scenarios, i.e. relative motion significant changes configuration over time. To this end, we analyze issue imbalance problems, propose strategy for demonstrate balance scalability some application‐driven test cases.

Dynamic Load Balancing for Distributed
In this paper we study diffusion schemes for dynamic load balancing on message passing multiprocessor networks. One of the main results concerns conditions under which these dynamic schemes converge and their rates of convergence for arbitrary topologies. These results use the eigenstructure of the iteration matrices that arise in dynamic load balancing. We completely analyze the hypercube netw...

Adaptive mesh reenement is a key problem in large-scale numerical calculations. The need of adaptive mesh reenement could introduce load imbalance among processors, where the load measures the amount of work required by reenement itself as well as by numerical calculations thereafter. We present a dynamic load balancing algorithm to ensure that the work load are balanced while the communication...

Many adaptive techniques for the solution of both steady and time-dependent PDEs rely on a hierarchy of meshes: starting with a coarse global mesh and reening this by diierent amounts in diierent regions. Since this reenement (or de-reenement) is part of the solution process it is necessary to dynamically alter the way in which the mesh is partitioned if a parallel implementation of such an alg...

We consider the problem of dynamic load balancing in arbitrary (connected) networks on n nodes. Our load generation model is such that during each round, n tasks are generated on arbitrary nodes, and then (possibly after some balancing) one task is deleted from every nonempty node. Notice that this model fully saturates the resources of the network in the sense that we generate just as many new...
