Dynamic time warping to quantify age distortion in firn cores impacted by melt processes

چکیده

Abstract As warming intensifies across the Greenland ice sheet, an increasing number of shallow coring and radar studies are targeting melt-impacted firn column to investigate meltwater processes. Highly inhomogeneous infiltration refreezing, however, redistributes mass, distorting age–depth relationships confounding comparisons between different cores. Here, we utilize a dynamic time warping algorithm for series alignment quantify heterogeneous impact melt processes on nine closely spaced (within 50 m) core-density profiles. The 10 m cores were collected relatively high in Greenland's percolation zone, where alteration is minimal compared lower elevation. Our analysis demonstrates effectiveness as tool assessing heterogeneity core records. We find that optimal density profiles requires vertical stretching compression individual profiles, ranging from, average, <1 ~16% lengths. identified four depth zones mass redistribution appear coincide with observed layers. Further, ~75% measurements from each do not align age model-derived profile assumes no meltwater, indicating pervasive

Derivative Dynamic Time Warping

Time series are a ubiquitous form of data occurring in virtually every scientific discipline. A common task with time series data is comparing one sequence with another. In some domains a very simple distance measure, such as Euclidean distance will suffice. However, it is often the case that two sequences have the approximately the same overall component shapes, but these shapes do not line up...

Using Dynamic Time Warping to Find Patterns in Time Series

Knowledge discovery in databases presents many interesting challenges within the ¢onte~t of providing computer tools for exploring large data archives. Electronic data .repositories are growing qulckiy and contain data from commercial, scientific, and other domains. Much of this data is inherently temporal, such as stock prices or NASA telemetry data. Detect£ug patterns in such data streams or ...

Dynamic time warping assessment of high-resolution melt curves provides a robust metric for fungal identification

Fungal infections are a global problem imposing considerable disease burden. One of the unmet needs in addressing these infections is rapid, sensitive diagnostics. A promising molecular diagnostic approach is high-resolution melt analysis (HRM). However, there has been little effort in leveraging HRM data for automated, objective identification of fungal species. The purpose of these studies wa...

shapeDTW: Shape Dynamic Time Warping

Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) is an algorithm to align temporal sequences with possible local non-linear distortions, and has been widely applied to audio, video and graphics data alignments. DTW is essentially a point-to-point matching method under some boundary and temporal consistency constraints. Although DTW obtains a global optimal solution, it does not necessarily achieve locally sensible m...
