Dynamics and Energy Analysis of Nonequatorial Space Elevator Using Three-Dimensional Nonlinear Finite Element Method Extended to Noninertial Coordinate System

A space elevator is a futuristic transportation technology that enables low-cost and versatile payload using climbers on tether deployed from the geostationary orbit (GEO). In particular, nonequatorial elevator, which contains an anchor in region with latitudes Earth, has recently attracted attention. It several advantages, such as extending construction range avoiding collisions spacecraft GEO. Prior research focused rigid-body or spring-mass models low fidelity. This paper proposes modeling method for elevators nodal-position finite element (NPFEM) extended to rotational coordinate system. The NPFEM three-dimensional considers geometric nonlinearity. Conventional NPFEMs have only been formulated inertial systems. formulate noninertial system derive forces Jacobian matrices. addition, analysis of was performed based proposed method. After determining equilibrium position NPFEM, dynamic response during climber ascent analyzed. Moreover, parametric studies were conducted by varying properties elevator. Furthermore, energy exchange between components analyzed validate discuss perspective results revealed model experienced more tensioned exhibited significant than conventional models.
