Effect and correction of optode coupling errors in breast imaging using diffuse optical tomography

چکیده
In diffuse optical tomography (DOT) and spectroscopy (DOS) using handheld probes, tissue curvature can cause bad fiber-to-tissue contact. Understanding minimizing image artifacts caused by these coupling errors would significantly improve DOT DOS quality. this work, we utilized Monte Carlo simulations experiments with gelatin-Intralipid phantoms to systematically study the influence of source or detector (optode) errors. Optode increase amplitude decrease phase measured reflectance, creating in reconstructed absorption maps, such as hot spots on edges. We propose an outlier removal algorithm that correct artifacts, demonstrate its performance simulations, phantom experiments, breast patient data acquired probe contact due a dense small breast. Further, designed implemented new resistance-type thin-film force sensor array provides real-time optode feedback guides minimize Our approaches results have significant implications for reducing arising from which are commonly used mobile wearable devices.

Optode positional calibration in diffuse optical tomography.
Although diffuse optical tomography is a highly promising technique used to noninvasively image blood volume and oxygenation, the reconstructed data are sensitive to systemic difference between the forward model and the actual experimental conditions. In particular, small changes in optode location or in the optode-tissue coupling coefficient significantly degrade the quality of the reconstruct...

متن کاملA multimodal breast cancer imaging system using coregistered dynamic diffuse optical tomography and digital breast tomosynthesis
Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) is an emerging noninvasive functional imaging method for breast cancer diagnosis and neoadjuvant chemotherapy monitoring. In particular, the multimodal approach of combining DOT with x-ray digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) is especially synergistic as DBT prior information can be used to enhance the DOT reconstruction. DOT, in turn, provides a functional inform...

متن کاملReduction of image artifacts induced by change in the optode coupling in time-resolved diffuse optical tomography.
Tomographic images of the optical properties can be reconstructed using inversion algorithms for diffuse optical tomography (DOT); however, changes in the optode coupling that occurs while obtaining an object's measurements may often lead to the presence of artifacts in the reconstructed images. To reduce the number of artifacts induced by optode coupling, previous studies have introduced (unkn...
