Effect of Surface Nonlinearity Distribution on Second Harmonic Generation under Tightly Focused Beams
نویسندگان
چکیده
A thorough integral formulation describing the second harmonic generation under tightly focused linearly and radially polarized beams for an arbitrary distribution of nonlinear susceptibility over surface isotropic media was presented. We numerically simulated effects caused by straight edge region. In particular, we demonstrated that radiation in normal direction, which is forbidden common cases highly symmetrical surfaces, allowed presence edge. This provided χ(2)xzx-component second-order susceptibility.

متن کاملSurface plasmon interference excited by tightly focused laser beams.
We show that interfering surface plasmon polaritons can be excited with a focused laser beam at normal incidence to a plane metal film. No protrusions or holes are needed in this excitation scheme. Depending on the axial position of the focus, the intensity distribution on the metal surface is either dominated by interferences between counterpropagating plasmons or by a two-lobe pattern charact...
متن کاملHighly nonlinear dynamics of third-harmonic generation by focused beams
Beams that experience third-harmonic generation ~THG! also experience Kerr effects. With Kerr effects, beams do not take simple Gaussian shapes, but exhibit nonlinear dynamics. These nonlinear dynamics have an effect on the THG accumulated by focusing and then diverging beams. We formulate a self-consistent and complete set of nonlinear Schrödinger equations for a pair of coupled beams—a fundam...
متن کاملGeneration of second-harmonic beams with switchable curved trajectories
Beamswhich follow curved trajectories are useful in a variety of applications, but up to now have been realized mainly in linear media. We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally the generation of second-harmonic (SH) beams which follow arbitrary convex caustic trajectories. These beams are created in a nonlinear photonic crystal with a second-order susceptibility having a tailored pattern...
متن کاملSecond- and third-harmonic generation with vector Gaussian beams
We consider second-harmonic generation (SHG) and third-harmonic generation (THG) in a nonlinear optical crystal illuminated by a vector Gaussian beam, i.e., a Gaussian beam in which the axial component of the excitation field is considered. This component exhibits twice the Gouy phase shift of the transverse component and vanishes at points on the beam axis. Harmonic generation stemming from th...
