Effects of covid-19 on cognitive functioning

Abstract We were interested in whether the covid-19 pandemic affects cognitive functioning addition to emotional responses. To this end, we applied four questions related everyday activities that inevitably involve fluid abilities, e.g., problems concentrating, remembering, and switching between different mental activities. Respondents self-assessed their abilities during compared period before on a 7-point scale (1 - much easier than before, .. 4 same as earlier, 7 harder before). The results showed that, average, respondents estimated slightly more (4.21, where means respondent does not notice changes). Nearly three-quarters of respondents(72%) did report changes abilities. In comparison, 7% reported improved many 21% deteriorated pandemic. There no differences men women terms self-assessment More significant with younger older respondents, students other employment groups, less educated educated, those living alone family, whose financial situation had deteriorated, and, expected, chronic illnesses, who also depressive health symptoms. survey indicate interdependence demographic factors, mood problems, cognition. Therefore, interventions mitigate should include peoples' response problems.
