Effects of different application methods of spent coffee grounds on weed growth

Abstract The extensive and intensive use of herbicides has resulted in the spread herbicide-resistant weeds many crop production systems; therefore, it is imperative to devise new organic weed control methods. Recently, application spent coffee grounds (SCG) agricultural fields been found inhibit plant growth germination thus considered a potentially effective measure. This study aimed evaluate effects different amounts methods SCG on through field experiments. experiments were conducted an upland converted from paddy western Japan. results show that plow-in over 10 kg m −2 mulching 20 decreased dry weight compared with control. In addition, species families other than Gramineae, such as wingleaf primrose-willow horseweed, was not significantly affected by application. Weed Gramineae are dominant some fields.
