Effects of joint assimilation of FY-4A AGRI and ground-based microwave radiometer on heavy rainfall prediction

As the latest generation of Chinese Geostationary Weather Satellites, Fengyun-4 carries Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager (AGRI), which has more spectral bands and higher temporal spatial resolution than Visible Infrared Spin-Scan Radiometer (VISSR) onboard geostationary satellite FY-2. Direct assimilation FY-4A AGRI datasets been proved to be an efficient way improve heavy rainfall simulation. We aim assess joint infrared radiance ground-based MWR (Microwave Radiometer) data on short-duration prediction. RTTOV (Radiative Transfer for TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder) is used as observational operator assimilation. The interface built in WRFDA 4.3 achieve direct FY4A radiance. forecasting effectiveness a typical event over northern China analyzed with four simulation experiments. main conclusions are: 1) Assimilating can initial humidity condition middle-lower layers, while favors correction middle-upper layers. two remarkably entire column. 2) Data effectively improves 6-h accumulated superior assimilating either them. significantly forecast Beijing area, where seven MWRs are distributed. 3) experiments present similar effects predicted conditions.
