Effects of Organic Amendments on Soil Pore Structure under Waterlogging Stress

چکیده
Organic amendments are a proven method of reducing soil erosion. However, the effect organic additives on pore properties soils waterlogged by extreme rainfall has been minimally investigated. In this study, we collected data, established field experiment consisting randomized groups, and imaged structure treated with different (9 t ha−1 maize straw [MS], 2.37 cattle manure [OF], mixture 9 MS 1.89 [SOF], 7.4 biochar [BC], 8.1 woody peat [WP], 3 L polyacrylamide [PAM]) in three-dimensions X-ray microtomography digital image analysis, which further quantified effects. The results showed that, compared control, BC increased total porosity 54.28% connected 119.75%, but did not affect shape size distribution. SOF improved connectivity indexes; e.g., their C/I ratios 177.44% 149.62%, coordination numbers 6.75% 15.76%, respectively. had fewer, longer larger, channels throats. Extreme precipitation events were significantly negatively correlated all indicators. This study shows that materials can optimize soil, being most resistant to counteract benefits have structure.

Impacts of Organic Soil Amendments on Runoff and Soil Ero- Sion under the Natural Rainfall Conditinos, Preliminary Re- Sults
Organic amendments such as composts and mulches have been shown to improve soil quality and reduce the impacts of stormwater runoff and soil erosion Previous studies using rainfall simulators have documented that runoff volumes and soil erosion can be significantly reduced when organic materials are added to the soil profile. The objectives of this study are to measure the changes in runoff and...

The quantification of nitrogen (N) supplying capacity of organic amendments applied to a soil is of immense importance to examine synchronization, N release capacity, and fertilizer values of these added materials. The aims of the present study was to determine the potential N mineralization and subsequent nitrification of separate and combined use of poultry manure (PM), wheat straw residues (...

Introduction Based on the interest among organic farmers in Iowa for an unbiased analysis of the many natural soil amendment/fertilizer and compost products on the market for certified organic vegetable and herb crop production, several experiments have been conducted (Delate 1999). According to the USDA Economic Research Service, statistics on organic production in the U.S. lag far behind thos...
