Efficient unequal probability resampling from finite populations

چکیده

A resampling technique for probability-proportional-to size sampling designs is proposed. It essentially based on a special form of variable probability, without replacement applied directly to the sample data, yet according pseudo-population approach. From theoretical point view, it asymptotically correct: as both and population increase, under mild regularity conditions proposed design tends coincide with original which data were collected. computational methodology easy be implemented efficient, because neither requires actual construction nor any randomization ensure integer weights sizes. Empirical evidence simulation study 1 indicates that outperforms its two main competitors confidence interval various parameters including quantiles.

Bayesian inference for finite population quantiles from unequal probability samples.

This paper develops two Bayesian methods for inference about finite population quantiles of continuous survey variables from unequal probability sampling. The first method estimates cumulative distribution functions of the continuous survey variable by fitting a number of probit penalized spline regression models on the inclusion probabilities. The finite population quantiles are then obtained ...

Macroscopically-observable probability currents in finite populations

In finite-size population models, one can derive Fokker-Planck equations to describe the fluctuations of the species numbers about the deterministic behaviour. In the steady state of populations comprising two or more species, it is permissible for a probability current to flow. In such a case, the system does not relax to equilibrium but instead reaches a non-equilibrium steady state. In a two...

Efficient Retina-like Resampling from Cartesian Images

This paper describes a novel method to resample cartesian images to a retina-like hexagonal tessellation, consisting of foveal and peripheral regions. We introduce the inflated-hexagons model for the foveal region resampling, which has an efficient data structure for storage and mapping of cortical coordinates. The integral image representation is used as intermediate step for the peripheral re...

Sampling From Finite Populations

The statistical objective in survey research and in a number of other applications is generally to estimate the parameters of a finite population rather than to estimate the parameters of a statistical model. As an example, the finite population for a survey conducted to estimate the unemployment rate might be all adults aged 18 or older living in a country at a given date. If valid estimates o...

Efficient Bootstrap Resampling

Bootstrap principle is briefly reviewed. Hall’s (1989) antithetic variates method for bootstrap is discussed and extended to more than two antithetic resampling processes. We illustrate the theory with a simulation study. The numerical results show that increasing the number of antithetic resampling processes produces significant smaller variances of the bootstrap estimator over the paired case.
