Eidetic Variation: a Self-Correcting and Integrative Account

Abstract Edmund Husserl’s eidetic phenomenology seeks a priori knowledge of essences and laws pertaining to conscious experience its objects. Husserl believes that such has higher epistemic status than the inherently fallible empirical knowledge, but closer reading his work shows even claims are subject error open modification. In this article, I develop self-correcting account method variation, arguing variation plays critical role in both challenging improving upon results phenomenology. More specifically, argue 1) is consistent with own formulations methodology principles; 2) captures dual function as means for testing intuitively validating claims; 3) offers methodological support contemporary attempts integrate non-eidetic methods resources. To substantiate these claims, first contrast falsificationist interpretations variation. Then, turn three applications order examine how could draw from real-life deviations, artificial variations, critical–historical reflection.
