Electrocatalytic Reduction of Nitrogen to Ammonia in Ionic Liquids

نویسندگان

چکیده

Ammonia (NH3) is an important raw material for nitrogen fertilizer production and widely used in industry. It also a carbon-free renewable fuel excellent hydrogen storage material. Reaction conditions of the traditional Haber–Bosch process are very harsh even though it supports most today’s NH3 production. Recently, electrocatalytic reduction reaction (NRR) has become one effective alternative methods to due advantages mild operation almost no environmental pollution. Ionic liquids (ILs) act as green solvents that possess lot unique features have shown performance NRR process. In this perspective, we summarize fundamentals NRR, role ILs several typical processes, possible Moreover, selection principles issues application well future development directions presented.

Transition metal catalysed ammonia-borane dehydrogenation in ionic liquids.

Significant advantages result from combining the disparate hydrogen release pathways for ammonia-borane (AB) dehydrogenation using ionic liquids (ILs) and transition metal catalysts. With the RuCl(2)(PMe(3))(4) catalyst precursor, AB dehydrogenation selectivity and extent are maximized in an IL with a moderately coordinating ethylsulfate anion.

Direct electrochemical reduction of hemin in imidazolium-based ionic liquids

The direct electrochemical reduction of hemin, protoporphyrin(IX) iron(III) chloride, ligated with strong or weak heterocyclic bases, was investigated in the ionic liquids (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) and 1-octyl-3methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([omim][PF6]), using cyclic voltammetry and chronocoulometry. Hemin complexed with N-methylimidazole (NMI)...

Modeling the Solubility of Acid Gases in Ionic Liquids

In this work, the PC-SAFT equation of state (EoS) has been used to model the solubility of acid gases (CO2 and H2S) in two imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) ([C8-mim][PF6] and [C8-mim][Tf2N]). Parameters of pure ILs were estimated using experimental densities. Two strategies were considered to model densities of pure ILs. In strategy 1, ILs were modeled as nonassociating compounds and in st...

Ionic liquids in tribology.

Current research on room-temperature ionic liquids as lubricants is described. Ionic liquids possess excellent properties such as non-volatility, non-flammability, and thermo-oxidative stability. The potential use of ionic liquids as lubricants was first proposed in 2001 and approximately 70 articles pertaining to fundamental research on ionic liquids have been published through May 2009. A lar...
