Emergence of Huge Negative Spin-Transfer Torque in Atomically Thin Co layers.
Current-induced domain wall motion has drawn great attention in recent decades as the key operational principle of emerging magnetic memory devices. As the major driving force of the motion, the spin-orbit torque on chiral domain walls has been proposed and is currently extensively studied. However, we demonstrate here that there exists another driving force, which is larger than the spin-orbit...
متن کاملSpin-transfer torque switching in magnetic tunnel junctions and spin-transfer torque random access memory
We present experimental and numerical results of current-driven magnetization switching in magnetic tunnel junctions. The experiments show that, for MgObased magnetic tunnelling junctions, the tunnelling magnetoresistance ratio is as large as 155% and the intrinsic switching current density is as low as 1.1× 10 A cm. The thermal effect and current pulse width on spin-transfer magnetization swit...
متن کاملAtomically thin gallium layers from solid-melt exfoliation
Among the large number of promising two-dimensional (2D) atomic layer crystals, true metallic layers are rare. Using combined theoretical and experimental approaches, we report on the stability and successful exfoliation of atomically thin "gallenene" sheets on a silicon substrate, which has two distinct atomic arrangements along crystallographic twin directions of the parent α-gallium. With a ...
متن کاملSpin-transfer torque in nanoscale magnetic devices.
We discuss recent highlights from research at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, regarding the use of spin-transfer torques to control magnetic moments in nanoscale ferromagnetic devices. We highlight progress on reducing the critical currents necessary to produce spin-torque-driven magnetic switching, quantitative measurements of the magnitude and direction of the spin torque in magnetic tu...
متن کاملNonequilibrium Spin-transfer Torque in SFNFS Junctions
We report theoretical results for the nonequilibrium spin current and spin-transfer torque in voltage-biased SFNFS Josephson structures. The subharmonic gap structures and high voltage asymptotic behaviors of the dc and ac components of the spin current are analyzed and related to the spin-dependent inelastic scattering of quasiparticles at both F layers.
