NLL Resummation of the Heavy-Quark Hadroproduction Cross-Section
We compute the effect of soft-gluon resummation, at the next-to-leading-logarithmic level, in the hadroproduction cross-section for heavy flavours. Applications to top, bottom and charm total cross-sections are discussed. We find in general that the corrections to the fixed next-to-leading-order results are larger for larger renormalization scales, and small, or even negative, for smaller scale...
متن کاملthe role of russia in transmission of energy from central asia and caucuses to european union
Heavy quark production at high energy
We report on QCD radiative corrections to heavy quark production valid at high energy. The formulae presented will allow a matched calculation of the total cross section which is correct at O(α s) and includes resummation of all terms of order α s[αs ln(s/m )]. We also include asymptotic estimates of the effect of the high energy resummation. A complete description of the calculation of the hea...
متن کاملFragmentation of Very High Energy Heavy Ions
We present experimental results on fragmentation charge-changing cross sections of 158 A GeV lead ions (charge Z = 82e) incident on Cu and CR39 targets. To detect and identify the relativistic ions, the nuclear track detector CR39 was used. When an ion crosses a nuclear track detector foil, it produces damages at the level of molecular bonds, forming the so called “latent track”. During the che...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF QUARK POLARIZATION IN HEAVY QUARK FRAGMENTATION
We calculate the exact fragmentation functions for c and b quark fragmentation taking into account the spin orientation of the initial heavy quark in the form of analytical and rather simple expressions. Our calculations show that spin orientation may have an important effect on the fragmentation spectrum. This effect is more striking in the cases of c ?D, D*; c? ? , ? , and ?B , B *.
