Energy Flow Through Marine Ecosystems: Confronting Transfer Efficiency

نویسندگان

چکیده

Transfer efficiency is a key parameter describing ecosystem structure and function used to estimate fisheries production; however, it also one of the most uncertain parameters. Questions remain about how habitats, food resources, fishing pressure, spatiotemporal scales, as well temperature, primary production, other climate drivers impact transfer efficiency. Direct measurements are difficult, but observations marine population abundances, diets, productivity, stable isotope analysis, models integrating these constraints can provide estimates. Recent estimates suggest that more variable than previously thought, compounding uncertainties in predictions projections. Increased understanding factors contributing variation will improve projections change impacts on ecosystems. proportion energy passed between nodes webs. Energy Efficiency through Burstiness

OS resource management policies traditionally employ buffering to “smooth out” fluctuations in resource demand. By minimizing the length of idle periods and the level of contention during non-idle periods, such smoothing tends to maximize overall throughput and minimize the latency of individual requests. For certain important devices, however (disks, network interfaces, or even computational e...

Discriminating mesozooplankton communities in Bushehr marine coastal ecosystems- Persian Gulf

Coastal ecosystems of Bushehr are shallow environments subject to human impacts, including shrimp aquaculture and urban expansion activities. A spatial-temporal study was conducted in order to assess the actual ecological status of the creeks, estuary and marine sites on the basis of their taxonomic composition and density of mesozooplankton. Zooplankton species distribution and abundance data ...

Energy Conservation using Daylight Energy Transfer through Windows : Case of Office Buildings

The exterior envelope of buildings play a significant role on the amount of energy consumption in office buildings that are located in warm climates. The present study focuses on the reduction of energy consumption by integrating daylight and artificial lights, and by changing the characteristics of exterior envelope of buildings including window coverage and dimension of buildings. Moreover, t...

Major challenges confronting marine biogeochemical modeling

Substantial improvements are required in the current suite of numerical models if we are to better understand the present ocean biogeochemical state and predict potential future responses to anthropogenic perturbations. At present, major impediments to marine biogeochemical modeling include the inadequate representation of multi-element cycling and community structure, large-scale physical circ...

Energy efficiency in a building complex through seasonal storage of thermal energy in a confined aquifer

Confined aquifers are formations surrounded by impermeable layers called cap rocks and bed rocks. These aquifers are suitable for the seasonal storage of thermal energy. A confined aquifer was designed to meet the cooling and heating energy needs of a residential building complex located in Tehran, Iran. The annual cooling and heating energy needs of the buildings were estimated to be 8.7...
