Engaging Disability Theory in Planning Practice

چکیده
In this commentary, we suggest that disability in planning practice is widely under-theorized. Planners must respond to normalized inattention the field and can begin doing so by engaging theory practice. Five perspectives are discussed with a view providing planners toolkit: (1) medical, (2) social, (3) biopsychosocial models; (4) neoliberal viewpoint; (5) critical ableist studies lens. We encourage embrace complexity of experiences, work toward unsettling normalcy disabled people’s exclusion planned environments.

A Critical View on New Urbanism Theory in Urban Planning: From Theory to Practice
In the wake of Jacobs’s criticisms of planning, planners increasingly felt a level of angst over, or even responsibility for, the condition of the city. Schooled in preparing and implementing plans and land use regulations, they appreciated the appeal of a new movement that offered a simple, tangible, and marketable recipe for practice. New urbanism theory is one of the contemporary urban theor...
متن کاملTheory and Practice in Planning
This paper explores opportunities for synergy between theoretical and applied researchers in the area of automated planning. From the diiering perspectives of theorists, experimentalists, and practitioners, we examine the causes of current dissatisfaction with existing theoretical and experimental results. We survey approaches from theoretical computer science that provide alternatives to the s...
متن کاملPlanning with h + in Theory and Practice
Many heuristic estimators for classical planning are based on the so-called delete relaxation, which ignores negative effects of planning operators. Ideally, such heuristics would compute the actual goal distance in the delete relaxation, i. e., the cost of an optimal relaxed plan, denoted by h. However, current delete relaxation heuristics only provide (often inadmissible) estimates to h becau...
متن کاملChallenges for Theory and Practice in Planning
Tiffs paper reports on recent progress addressing two issues, one of importvalce to theoretical and experimental research in generative planning and the second of importvalce to the practical application of probabilistic planning methods. The first issue concerns what makes planning problems hard from a computational perspective. We report on research investigating threshold phenomena in determ...
