Enhanced Discriminative Abilities of Auditory Cortex Neurons for Pup Calls Despite Reduced Evoked Responses in C57BL/6 Mother Mice

چکیده
A fundamental task for the auditory system is to process communication sounds according their behavioral significance. In many mammalian species, pup calls became more significant mothers than other conspecific and heterospecific sounds. To study cortical consequences of motherhood on processing sounds, we recorded neuronal responses in primary cortex virgin mother C57BL/6 mice which had similar ABR thresholds. mothers, evoked firing rate response pure tones was decreased frequency receptive fields were narrower. The adult also reduced but amount mutual information (MI) per spike about call’s identity increased mice. latency significantly shorter mothers. Despite similarly guinea pig whistles, latency, MI did not differ between virgins these vocalizations. Noise correlations recordings suggesting that distant neurons independent from each other. Together, results indicate most commonly used mouse strain studies, discrimination by efficient during motherhood.

Nicotinic modulation of tone-evoked responses in auditory cortex reflects the strength of prior auditory learning.
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) contribute to sensory-cognitive function, as demonstrated by evidence that nAChR activation enhances, and nAChR blockade impairs, neural processing of sensory stimuli and sensory-cognitive behavior. To better understand the relationship between nAChR function and behavior, here we compare the strength of nAChR-mediated physiology in individual animals ...
متن کاملParallels between timing of onset responses of single neurons in cat and of evoked magnetic fields in human auditory cortex.
Sound onsets constitute particularly salient transients and evoke strong responses from neurons of the auditory system, but in the past, such onset responses have often been analyzed with respect to steady-state features of sounds, like the sound pressure level. Recent electrophysiological studies of single neurons from the auditory cortex of anesthetized cats have revealed that the timing and ...

Objective(s): We sought to explore whether neuregulin-1(NRG1) would have a protective effect on the auditory cortices of adult C57BL/6J mice.Materials and Methods: We used RTPCR and Western blot (WB) to detect the expression of NRG1 and ERBB4 (the receptor of NRG1) in the auditory cortices of C57BL/6J mice of different ages (6–8 weeks an...
متن کاملProcessing of Communication Calls in Guinea Pig Auditory Cortex
Vocal communication is an important aspect of guinea pig behaviour and a large contributor to their acoustic environment. We postulated that some cortical areas have distinctive roles in processing conspecific calls. In order to test this hypothesis we presented exemplars from all ten of their main adult vocalizations to urethane anesthetised animals while recording from each of the eight areas...
متن کاملBrainstem auditory evoked responses in brainstem infarction.
Brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAERs) were recorded in 40 patients with clinically definite brainstem infarction, and results were compared to localizations from physical signs and CT scans. The BAER was abnormal in 92% of patients with evidence on physical examination of dysfunction of lateral structures in the pons or midbrain. Normal BAERs were seen with medially-situated or medullary ...
