Enhanced Paging Monitoring for 5G and Beyond 5G Networks

User experience, characterized by not only data rate and latency but also power consumption, is one of the major drivers for success 5G Beyond-5G (B5G) networks. Equipment (UE) saving enhancements are at forefront ongoing discussions in 3GPP next generation radio standards. Idle mode Discontinuous Reception (IDRX) an important mechanism UE’s saving. However, IDRX 5G/B5G networks more challenging than legacy UE required to measure Synchronization Signal Block(s) (SSBs) Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH) Common Control (PDCCH) reception every paging occasion (PO) cycle Furthermore, PDSCH decoding very sensitive time-frequency synchronization error requires multiple SSB measurements before PO. In this paper we present Enhanced Paging Monitoring (EPM) reducing impediments on due related overheads. We extend our EPM proposal incorporating early indication.
