Enhanced removal of phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals from coastal waters by intertidal macroalgae

چکیده
The phytoremediation of phenolic endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in coastal waters by intertidal macroalgae was firstly investigated. results showed that could remove bisphenol A (BPA) and nonylphenol (NP) at environmental relevant concentration, Ulva pertusa the most efficient one. In cases, order EDCs removal efficiency be expressed as: green algae > brown red algae. in-situ monitoring using a charge?coupled device imaging system confirmed accumulation macroalgae. mechanisms included initial rapid biosorption process, followed slow biodegradation. BPA NP slightly dependent on temperature nutrient concentration. linear relationship observed between concentration average rate (R2 0.99). (100 ?g L?1) removed efficiently even after three cycles pilot-scale experiments. high also field investigation from zone with abundant pertusa. These findings demonstrated play essential role for waters.

Occurrence and removal of phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals in the water treatment processes
This paper evaluated the occurrence and removal efficiency of four selected phenolic endocrine disrupting chemicals (bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP), nonylphenol (NP) and diethylstilbestrol (DES)) in two drinking waterworks in Jiangsu province which take source water from Taihu Lake. The recombined yeast estrogen screen (YES) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) wer...
متن کاملEndocrine disrupting chemicals
The idea that xenobiotic chemicals could inappropriately modlate the endocrine system thereby causing detrimental effects n wildlife and humans was first proposed 20 years ago at the atershed Wingspread Conference [1,2]. These endocrine disruptng chemicals (EDCs) have long been controversial, with a great eal of discussion raging in the scientific literature. Much of this ontroversy has centere...
متن کاملRemoval of estrogenic activity from endocrine-disrupting chemicals by purified laccase of Phlebia tremellosa.
A white-rot basidiomycete, Phlebia tremellosa, produced a laccase that showed increased activity during degradation of phthalates. A laccase was purified through the ion exchange chromatography and preparative gel electrophoresis, and the estimated molecular weight was 75 kDa. The optimum pH and temperature of the purified laccase was pH 4.0 and 20 degrees C, respectively. The K(m) value of the...
متن کاملChemical communication threatened by endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Communication on a cellular level--defined as chemical signaling, sensing, and response--is an essential and universal component of all living organisms and the framework that unites all ecosystems. Evolutionarily conserved signaling "webs," existing both within an organism and between organisms, rely on efficient and accurate interpretation of chemical signals by receptors. Therefore, endocrin...
متن کاملThe challenge posed by endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
Rapid regulatory developments in the area of environmental endocrine disruption present a series of potential problems that are identified and illustrated with examples taken from the recent literature. A list of priorities is provided, including the need for additional epidemiological and wildlife studies, the derivation of a coordinated testing strategy, agreement on the toxicities expected o...
