Enhancing communicative competence in English Second Language classrooms through traditional storytelling

This paper aimed to explore the use of traditional stories as a tool facilitate and enhance communicative competence in English Second Language (ESL) classrooms. The sudden switch from in-person online instruction during COVID-19 caused decline activities, including storytelling. Any language program should aim generate learners who are proficient communication. According research, even with low motivation poor academic skills more inclined listen put much effort into narrative setting. is grounded on Gardener’s Multiple Intelligences Theory, which challenges view Intelligent Quotient Theory enables teachers take renewed look at other views about learning development. study adopted an interpretive paradigm entrenched qualitative approach using case design. Semi-structured interviews were used collect data 5 conveniently selected Grade 6 teachers. Content analysis was analyse data. Findings revealed that (i) not engaged storytelling schools (ii) lack recordings stories. denies opportunities share their cultural knowledge values. recommends be included school curriculum improve learners’ communication skills. Furthermore, can act vehicle for restoring culture.
