Enhancing Energy Efficiency of the Doze Mode Mechanism in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks Using Support Vector Regression

چکیده
An Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is an access that allows a higher data rate with low power consumption. To improve energy savings for EPON, the sleep and doze modes units (ONUs) play pivotal role. Many prediction schemes have been proposed to control these modes. increase accuracy, this study proposes energy-efficient approach uses support vector regression (SVR) model. A dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) scheme called SVR-DBA designed allocate ONUs more efficiently fairly. determine effectiveness of scheme, simulations are performed. The simulation results show decreases consumption by up 47% fulfills quality-of-service (QoS) requirements in terms delay, jitter, packet loss.

As concerns about energy consumption grow, the power consumption of the EPON becomes a matter of increasing importance. In respect of energy efficiency, the current standard has no management protocols aiming to reduce power consumption in EPONs. In this paper, we propose an Energy Management Mechanism (EMM) for downlink EPON systems. The proposed mechanism is designed to enhance the standardiz...

1— The non-fragmentable nature of Ethernet data frames, as well as operation of the priority oriented packet schedulers in the Optical Network Units (ONUs) along with heavy network load conditions and the lack of detailed knowledge about the queues composition at the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) level, result in the creation of upstream channel slot remainders. Non-preemptive packet schedulers a...

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Energy Efficiency in Passive Optical
This article provides an overview of current efforts in reducing energy consumption in passive optical access networks. Both ITU-T and IEEE standardized PONs are considered. The current solutions proposed by standardization authorities, industry, and academia are classified based on the layer they address in the standardized architectures: physical layer, data link layer, and hybrid. Then, the ...
