Enhancing Overland Flow Infiltration through Sustainable Well-Managed Thinning: Contour-Aligned Felled Log Placement in a Chamaecyparis obtusa Plantation

چکیده
Contour felling is a restoration method used to decrease overland flow (OF) and soil erosion in the world. However, impact of thinning placement felled logs on OF remains inconclusive. Low ground cover permeability promote Chamaecyparis obtusa (Siebold et Zucc.) Endl plantations, making for reducing runoff. We examined relationship between C. plantation Japan. Event-based runoff was monitored three plots from 2016 2021, with 40% conducted 2019. In plot T1, were randomly scattered, and, T2, followed contour lines, while control stayed same. After thinning, both treatment showed lower than plot. The ANCOVA test shows significant slope reduction compared pre-thinning post-thinning (T1: 0.67 0.26, T2: 0.66 0.12, p < 0.001, Tukey HSD test). remained stable two years post-thinning, affirming enduring effectiveness contour-aligned log placement. This study backs notion that aligning fallen lines boosts long-term infiltration, supporting sustainable forest management.

Biflavones from Chamaecyparis obtusa.
From the leaves of Chamaecyparis obtusa several biflavones were isolated and identified, namely: sciadopitysin, ginkgetin, isoginkgetin, podocarpusflavone B, 7,7"-O-dimethylamentoflavone, bilobetin, podocarpusflavone A, and 7-O-methylamentoflavone. The presence of amentoflavone and hinokiflavone was also confirmed. The composition of biflavones in other Chamaecyparis species--Ch. lawsoniana, Ch...
متن کاملA Nitrogen-Saturated Plantation of Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obtusa in Japan Is a Large Nonpoint Nitrogen Source
Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) and Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) plantations account for approximately 30% of the total forested area in Japan. Both are arbuscular mycorrhizal trees that leach more NO3 in response to nitrogen (N) deposition than do forests of ectomycorrhizal trees. However, little information is available about the size of N exports from these plantations. The ...
متن کاملChamaecyparis obtusa Suppresses Virulence Genes in Streptococcus mutans
Chamaecyparis obtusa (C. obtusa) is known to have antimicrobial effects and has been used as a medicinal plant and in forest bathing. This study aimed to evaluate the anticariogenic activity of essential oil of C. obtusa on Streptococcus mutans, which is one of the most important bacterial causes of dental caries and dental biofilm formation. Essential oil from C. obtusa was extracted, and its ...

Four new lignans, 3',4'-O,O-demethylenehinokinin (1), chamalignolide (2), 8'beta-hydroxyhinokinin (3) and 7beta,8beta-epoxyzuonin A (4), as well as (-)-hinokinin (5), and (-)-zuonin A (6), were isolated from the heartwood of Chamaecyparis obtusa var. formosana. The structures of these lignans were unambiguously determined by spectroscopic methods. And the absolute configuration of 1 was elucida...

This study was carried out to examine the action mechanism of Chamaecyparis obtusa oil (CO) on hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. For alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GT) activities in the skin tissue, at week 4, the 3% minoxidil (MXD) and 3% CO treatment groups showed an ALP activity that was significantly higher by 85% (p < 0.001) and 48% (p < 0.05) and an γ-GT activity t...
