Enhancing strength and toughness of adhesive joints via micro-structured mechanical interlocking

چکیده

The potential to improve the mechanical properties of adhesive joints via micro-structured interlocking features is investigated. surfaces were fabricated in polycarbonate injection moulding from a master template. specimens then bonded an configuration form single lap and tested failure tension. Planar untreated (i.e. un-abraded) planar roughened abraded) samples also provide benchmarks. Compared case, results show that micro-structuring interface can yield up 95.9% increase strength 162% work failure. Increases beyond level are attributed features. As deformation proceeds, progressive bending each pair develops increasing resistive load which allows total significantly exceed case. Work increased combination maximum force, displacement enabled by microfeature more torturous crack path. Low clearances between found be favourable for owing reduced stiffness repeating periodic unit at interface.

On the Toughness of Ductile Adhesive Joints

Crack propagation along one of the interfaces between a thin ductile adhesive layer and the elastic substrates it joins is considered. The layer is taken as being elastic-plastic, and the fracture process of the interface is modeled by a traction-separation law, characterized by the peak separation stress 6 and the work of separation per unit area To. Crack growth resistance curves for mode I l...

Enhancing Mechanical Strength of Inorganic Geopolymer by Using Phenol Resin

The effect of organic phenol on the compressive and flexural strength of a metakaolin based geopolymer is studied. It was found that 12 wt% phenol resins can increase the compressive and flexural strength by 30% and 65% respectively. In addition, the reinforcing effect of phenol resin is higher in Na-PS and Na-PSS type geopolymers rather than Na-PSDS. Two distinct endothermic peaks were detecte...

Synthesis of nano-structured sphene and mechanical properties optimization of its scaffold via response surface methodology

Nano-structured sphene (CaTiSiO5) powder was synthesized via mechanical activation and heat treatment method. The synthesized powder was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and simultaneous thermal analysis (STA). The sphene scaffolds were then fabricated via porogen method (using citric acid). Response surface methodology was successfully used to d...

Effects of substrate material on fracture toughness measurement in adhesive joints

To understand the effects of substrate materials on the fracture behavior of adhesive joints, experimental studies and finite element analyses have both been conducted for double-cantilever-beams (DCB) with aluminum and steel substrates at different bond thickness (h). Numerical results show that the region dominated by the crack singularity is much smaller than the bond thickness. Very small p...
