چکیده
Abstract Background Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) research using large animals requires a significant amount of resources, slowing down the development new means ECMO anticoagulation. Therefore, this study developed and evaluated rat model 3D-printed mock-oxygenator. Methods The circuit consisted tubing, mock-oxygenator, roller pump. mock-oxygenator was designed to simulate geometry blood flow patterns fiber bundle in full-scale oxygenators but with low (2.5 mL) priming volume. Rats were placed on arteriovenous at 1.9 mL/min rate two different heparin doses (n = 3 each): (15 IU/kg/h for eight hours) versus high (50 one hour followed by 25 seven hours). experiment continued hours or until failed. considered have failed when its resistance reached three times baseline resistance. Results During ECMO, rats maintained near-normal mean arterial pressure gases minimal hemodilution. thrombus weight significantly (p < 0.05) between (0.02 ± 0.006 g) (0.003 0.001 delivery groups, also larger anticoagulation group. Conclusions This is simple, inexpensive system investigating agents provides levels that can serve as control groups future studies.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) reconsidered.
The role of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the treatment of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is controversial, notwithstanding the recent publication of the results of the CESAR (Conventional Ventilation or ECMO for Severe Adult Respiratory Failure) trial. Using Bayesian meta-analytic methods from three randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of ECMO in ARDS, we estimat...
متن کاملVenovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) using a double-lumen cannula.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can support neonates with severe respiratory failure. Currently, the most common application of ECMO requires venoarterial access. Venovenous (VV) ECMO is desirable to avoid common carotid artery ligation. However, the best technique of venous access for VV ECMO is not established. Using a single cannula with a double-lumen (DLC) in the right atrium fo...

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a complex technique for providing life support in neonatal respiratory failure. T UK Collaborative ECMO trial demonstrated cost-effectiveness and substantial improvements in neurological morbidity and mortality. Currently, infants requiring ECMO in Ireland are referred to one of various centres in the UK and Scandinavia. We aimed to review the numbe...
متن کاملImaging adults on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly being used in adults following failure to wean from cardiopulmonary bypass, after cardiac surgery or in cases of severe respiratory failure. Knowledge of the different types of ECMO circuits, expected locations of cannulas and imaging appearance of complications is essential for accurate imaging interpretation and diagnosis. Commonly en...
متن کاملApplication of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in tracheal tumor resection
Objective: Normal gas exchange and sufficient oxygenation are key preconditions for tracheal tumor resection. Due to the complex of diseases, conventional airway management during anesthesia, in some special cases, may meet some difficulties or risks. Then, some other options should be considered. We presented three cases where extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) was used for cardiopulmo...
