Evaluating Agronomic Onset Definitions in Senegal through Crop Simulation Modeling

چکیده

Rainfed agriculture in Senegal is heavily affected by weather-related risks, particularly timing of start/end the rainy season. For climate services agriculture, National Meteorological Agency (ANACIM) has defined an onset season based on rainfall. In field, however, farmers do not necessarily follow ANACIM’s definition. To close gap between parallel efforts a information producer (i.e., ANACIM) and its actual users (e.g., farmers), it desirable to understand how currently available definitions are linked yield specific crops. this study, we evaluated multiple definitions, including rainfall-based soil-moisture-based ones, terms their utility sorghum production using DSSAT–Sorghum model. The results show that highly variable year year, delayed estimation could cause missed opportunities for higher yields with earlier planting. Overall, dates determined crop simulation model produced distributions closer ones semi-optimal planting than other except relatively wet southern location. simulated yields, definition, showed statistically significant differences from range percentiles (25th, 50th, 75th, 90th) means three locations. emphasize having good definition skillful forecasts critical improving management risks Senegal.

Remote Sensing for Crop Growth and Crop Simulation Modeling

Crop yield is the result of complex interaction among factors of soil, atmosphere, plant genotype, and management practices adopted. These complex interactions of crop with various factors and of factors among themselves make the crop yield modeling a difficult task. Several methods of crop yield forecasting have been developed ranging from purely statistical to agro-meteorological to empirical...

Statistical methods for evaluating a crop nitrogen simulation model, N_ABLE

Modelling nitrogen (N) dynamics is a valuable tool to predict the uptake, mobility and leaching of mineral N in soil pro®les. Many crop/soil N simulation models have been developed in the last 20 years for this purpose. However, methods for the operational evaluation of simulation models are not well established. Standard test statistics such as the Fand t-tests are being questioned because the...

Agronomic conditions and crop evolution in ancient Near East agriculture

The appearance of agriculture in the Fertile Crescent propelled the development of Western civilization. Here we investigate the evolution of agronomic conditions in this region by reconstructing cereal kernel weight and using stable carbon and nitrogen isotope signatures of kernels and charcoal from a set of 11 Upper Mesopotamia archaeological sites, with chronologies spanning from the onset o...

Simulation Modeling in Botanical Epidemiology and Crop Loss Analysis

Over the years, modeling has become an integral part of plant disease epidemiology (or botanical epidemiology). As in other fields of research, modeling in plant disease epidemiology may serve very different purposes, including: synthesizing available data on epidemiological processes; predicting epidemiological patterns; developing a conceptual framework that captures available data; organizin...

Productivity Improvement through Line Balancing by Using Simulation Modeling

The typical problems facing garment manufacturers are long production lead time, bottlenecking, and low productivity. The most critical phase of garment manufacturing is the sewing phase, as it generally involves a number of operations or for the simple reason that it’s labor intensive. In assembly line balancing, allocation of jobs to machines is based on the objective of minimizing the workfl...
