Evaluating annoyance mitigation in the screening of train-induced noise and ground vibrations using a single-leaf traffic barrier

چکیده

External sources such as traffic and construction work cause noise vibration in nearby buildings, potentially annoying human residents. Today, almost every fifth European is harmfully affected by vibration. Wave barriers placed on or embedded within the soil between source receiver can mitigate transmission of ground vibration, airborne be reduced a similar manner with screen acting barrier. As novel approach, present explores efficiency combining into one. To this end, numerical experiments were performed semi–analytic finite-element method for boundary-element sound propagation. This involved time-harmonic analyses carried out order to study performance various configurations focusing vertical rigidly attached surface soil. Parametric conducted achieved mitigation different types ground-vibration barriers, respectively. The combined effect then assessed investigate their potential possibly reducing negative impact lineside aim work, though, highlight metric, recently developed, which reports probability number residents who could annoyed intrusive railway It shown that single structural-element target reduction around 15% annoyance levels 12 dB insertion loss amounts 30% due noise.

Prediction and mitigation of traffic induced ground vibrations in an urban zone

Ground vibrations generated by heavy trucks and buses are a common source of environmental problem. They can reach levels that may cause nuisance to residents, damage to near-by structures, and perturbation in the functioning of sensitive equipment. These vibrations are produced mainly when the vehicle wheel’s pass over a speed reducer such as a road hump or a speed cushion. This study aims to ...

Mitigation of Train-Induced Floor Vibrations in Multi-Story Buildings Using a Blocking Floor

A new method is developed for reducing train–induced floor vibrations in buildings. Vibration transmitted through building columns to the upper floors can be mitigated by considerably increasing the thickness of a lower floor, which is named the “blocking floor”. This can be a desirable and inexpensive solution for vibration mitigation. The work presented by this paper shows the ability of an i...

Vibrations caused by train traffic and the effect of its mitigation on the quality of living

Railway traffic induced vibrations in dwellings often cause irritation or disturb the inhabitants. Mitigation has been performed, and measurements prove their effectiveness. The effect of vibration countermeasures on the quality of living however has not been studied earlier. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of vibration mitigation compared to the increase of inhabitant sa...

Combined Effects of High-Speed Railway Noise and Ground Vibrations on Annoyance

The Shinkansen super-express railway system in Japan has greatly increased its capacity and has expanded nationwide. However, many inhabitants in areas along the railways have been disturbed by noise and ground vibration from the trains. Additionally, the Shinkansen railway emits a higher level of ground vibration than conventional railways at the same noise level. These findings imply that bui...

Effect of Rail Corrugation on the Amount of Train Induced Vibrations near a Historical Building

The evaluation and control of the trains induced vibrations needs even more attention in the case of underground tracks which passes near to monuments and historical sites. The rail corrugations which occur due to the wheels’ impulse loads during the operation period of underground railway tracks, usually amplify the ground borne noise and vibration. In the current study, the mentioned phenomen...
