چکیده
Abstract The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) is a very long-baseline interferometer built to image supermassive black holes on event-horizon scales. In this paper, we investigate candidate sites for an expanded EHT array with improved imaging capabilities. We use historical meteorology and radiative transfer analysis evaluate site performance. Most of the existing in have median zenith opacity less than 0.2 at 230 GHz during March/April observing season. Seven 345 0.5 months. Out more 40 new locations analyzed, approximately half comparable sites, least 17 would be comparably good observing. A group favorable transmittance geographic placement leads greatly enhanced science horizon

Approaching the event horizon: 1.3mmλ VLBI of SgrA*
Advances in VLBI instrumentation now allow wideband recording that significantly increases the sensitivity of short wavelength VLBI observations. Observations of the supermassive black hole candidate at the center of the Milky Way, SgrA*, with short wavelength VLBI reduces the scattering effects of the intervening interstellar medium, allowing observations with angular resolution comparable to ...
متن کاملZooming towards the Event Horizon - mm-VLBI today and tomorrow
Global VLBI imaging at millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths overcomes the opacity barrier of synchrotron self-absorption in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and opens the direct view into sub-pc scale regions not accessible before. Since AGN variability is more pronounced at short millimeter wavelength, mm-VLBI can reveal structural changes in very early stages after outbursts. When combined w...
متن کاملGreenland Telescope (GLT) Project ”A Direct Confirmation of Black Hole with Submillimeter VLBI”
The GLT project is deploying a new submillimeter (submm) VLBI station in Greenland. Our primary scientific goal is to image a shadow of the supermassive black hole (SMBH) of six billion solar masses in M87 at the center of the Virgo cluster of galaxies. The expected SMBH shadow size of 40-50 μas requires superbly high angular resolution, suggesting that the submm VLBI would be the only way to o...
متن کاملThe Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope
We present the first results from a new 250, 350, and 500 m Galactic plane survey taken with the Balloon-borne Large-Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (BLAST) in 2005. This survey’s primary goal is to identify and characterize high-mass protostellar objects (HMPOs). The region studied here covers 4 deg near the open cluster NGC 6823 in the constellation Vulpecula (‘ 1⁄4 59 ). We find 60 compact ...
