Evaluation of Radar Precipitation Products and Assessment of the Gauge-Radar Merging Methods in Southeast Texas for Extreme Precipitation Events

Many radar-gauge merging methods have been developed to produce improved rainfall data by leveraging the advantages of gauge and radar observations. Two popular methods, Regression Kriging Bayesian were utilized compared in this study hourly from networks multi-source datasets. The authors collected, processed, modeled (Stage IV, MRMS RTMA data) two extreme storm events (i.e., Hurricane Harvey 2017 Tropical Storm Imelda 2019) occurring coastal area Southeast Texas with devastating flooding. analysis on consideration statistical metrics, physical rationality, computational expenses, implies that while both can effectively improve data, model demonstrates its superior performance over since latter is found be prone overfitting issues due clustered distributions. Moreover, spatial resolution affect results significantly, where works unskillfully when a coarser used. recommends use high-quality properly spatial-interpolated methods. believe findings are critical for assisting hazard mitigation future design improvement.
