Exciting prospects for detecting late-time neutrinos from core-collapse supernovae

چکیده
In this theoretical study of successful core-collapse supernovae, the authors provide a detailed model neutrino emission from different phases transition - explosion to proto-neutron star cooling late-time formation either neutron or black hole. They show that for supernova in Milky Way, these copiously produced neutrinos can be detected by current neutrino-detection experiments and used extract information about course event. The offers highly promising program make full use rare event as much physics possible.

Neutrinos in Stochastic Media: From Sun to Core-Collapse Supernovae
Recent work on neutrino propagation in stochastic media and its implications for the Sun and corecollapse supernovae are reviewed. It is shown that recent results from Sudbury Neutrino Observatory and SuperKamiokande combined with a best global fit value of δm2 = 5× 10−5 eV2 and tan2 θ = 0.3 rule out solar electron density fluctuations of a few percent or more. It is argued that solar neutrino ...
متن کاملDetecting the progenitors of core collapse supernovae
The masses and the evolutionary states of the progenitors of corecollapse supernovae are not well constrained by direct observations. Stellar evolution theory generally predicts that massive stars with initial masses less than about 30M⊙ should undergo core-collapse when they are cool M-type supergiants. However the only two detections of a SN progenitor before explosion are SN1987A and SN1993J...
متن کاملUnderstanding Core-Collapse Supernovae
At the University of Arizona, we have a major effort to study core-collapse supernovae, neutrino opacities and transfer, multi-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics, pulsar kicks, and gravitational radiation from supernovae. We have developed a precision 1D (spherical) multigroup implicit Boltzmann solver, SESAME 1 [1, 2], using the Feautrier technique, with the tangent-ray method to achieve exce...
متن کاملNon - spherical core collapse supernovae
Two-dimensional simulations of strongly anisotropic supernova explosions of a nonrotating 15 M ⊙ blue supergiant progenitor are presented, which follow the hydrodynamic evolution from times shortly after shock formation until hours later. It is shown that explosions which around the time of shock revival are dominated by low-order unstable modes (i.e. by a superposition of the l = 2 and l = 1 m...
متن کاملProgenitors of core-collapse supernovae
Knowledge of the progenitors of core-collapse supernovae is a fundamental component in understanding the explosions. The recent progress in finding such stars is reviewed. The minimum initial mass that can produce a supernova has converged to 8± 1M⊙, from direct detections of red supergiant progenitors of II-P SNe and the most massive white dwarf progenitors, although this value is model depend...
