Experimental and Observational Constraints on Halogen Behavior at Depth

نویسندگان

چکیده

Halogens are volatile elements present in trace amounts the Earth’s crust, mantle, and core. They show behavior tend to be incompatible except for fluorine, which makes them key tracers of fluid-mediated and/or melt-mediated chemical transport processes. Even small quantities halogens can profoundly affect many physicochemical processes such as melt viscosity, temperature stability mineral phases, aqueous fluids, or composition atmosphere through magma degassing. Experiments allow us simulate deep-Earth conditions. A comparison experimental results with natural rocks helps unravel role interior.

Experimental Constraints on Trace Element Behavior during Martian Fe- Oxidation Processes at Meridiani Planum

Introduction: The APXS (Alpha-Particle X-Ray Spectrometer) onboard the Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) has returned element abundances of over 200 soil and rock samples at both the Opportunity and Spirit landing sites [1]. Besides major elements, a selection of trace element concentrations including Ni, Cr, and Zn are also available. These data demonstrate that the trace element abundances of Mer...

Experimental Constraints on the Rheological Behavior of Olivine at Upper Mantle Conditions

Since the discovery of plate tectonics, geophysicists have sought to understand the dynamic system driving the evolution of the earth, both at the surface and in the deep interior. While the deep earth contains far fewer phases than the crust, the inaccessibility of the mantle and core present a different challenge: unraveling the physical behavior of materials at conditions beyond our intuitiv...

Observational Constraints on Cardassian Expansion

In this work, we have studied the observational constraints on the Cardassian Model for the dark energy. We have compared the model with existing Supernova data. The dependence of the location of the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) peaks on the parameters of the model have also been studied. We find, in particular that observational data arising from Archeops for the location of th...

Observational Constraints on Cluster Evolution

Current observational constraints on the dynamical evolution of star clusters are reviewed. Theory and observations now agree nicely on the mass dependency and time scales for disruption of young star clusters in galactic disks, but many problems still await resolution. The origin of the mass function of old globular clusters, and its (near) invariance with respect to host galaxy properties and...

New constraints on electron-beam induced halogen migration in apatite

Fluorine and chlorine X‐ray count rates are known to vary significantly during electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) of apatite. Since the rate, timing, and magnitude of this variation are a function of apatite orientation and composition, as well as EPMA operating conditions, this represents a significant problem for volatile element analysis in apatite. Although the effect is thought to be an i...
