In tilting-pad journal bearings (TPJB), power loss corresponds to the internal friction in shearing of oil. Besides lubrication gap, intermediate spaces between pads account for a notable amount frictional losses. Against background increasing demands efficiency and sustainable use resources, reduction takes key position further development bearings. our research, we compare two bearing concepts five-pad TPJB. Our objective is work out influence different methods housing designs on operation characteristics. We conduct experimental testing 500 mm TPJB configurations with respect concept: an oil-flooded non-flooded design. flooded design, oil supplied via spray-bars axial seals ensure inter-pad be completely filled The design comes without but drain channels avoid accumulation bearing. latter fed leading edge grooves (LEG). For data show that unloaded are not therefore, no pressure build-up occurs. absence additional load lower compared results increase minimum film thickness. With at high speeds reduced almost half. As result, entire turbomachinery application can considerably improved.
