Experimental investigation on composite panels of cold-formed steel and timber

Timber panels and cold-formed steel sheeting are widely used in the construction industry, especially prefabricated structures, temporary housing informal settlements. This is because these materials available, can be cut fixed with hand tools, their lightweight makes them easy to transport build with. When together, there a potential for composite action developing between timber underlying sheeting, which currently ignored design. A panel of oriented strand boards proposed herein its overall structural behaviour experimentally investigated. Based on results obtained from material, push-out flexural tests, mechanical properties determined predominant failure modes highlighted. The feasibility mobilising components system proven derived benefits, both terms load carrying capacity stiffness, quantified. It demonstrated that harnessing beneficial influence lead substantial improvements performance panel, offering improve significantly quality developments rapidly urbanising areas.
