Experimental research on new hole-making method assisted with asynchronous mixed frequency vibration in TiBw/TC4 composites

With the gradual promotion and application of difficult-to-machine materials such as titanium matrix composites in aerospace field, high-quality hole-making technology has become a major demand aviation manufacturing. In order to improve quality TiBw/TC4 composites, asynchronous mixed frequency vibration-assisted (AMFVAHM) method is proposed. The process consists two steps: ultrasonic drilling (UVAD) base hole low-frequency torsional helical milling (LFTVAHM) target hole. Based on this process, cutting trajectory modeling established, experiment conducted. experimental data show that during expansion stage, maximum XY-plane average force decreases by 30.96% axial 24.49% compared with conventional (HM) when vibration are same LFTVAHM. shows AMFVAHM can reduce chip size, tool wear, some other defects entrance/exit burrs, scratches, fractures wall. Comparing HM UVAD, verticality wall increases 71.43% 86.21%, inlet damage 27.98% 31.60%, outlet 2.80% 14.47%, roughness (Ra) 36.29% 63.43%, white layer thickness 19.99% 67.66%. Meanwhile, not only reduces temperature but also improves due fretting friction effect LFTVAHM secondary expansion, which meets need for practical engineering applications.
